Gluten Free at La Fondita in Amagansett, NY

La Fondita in Amagansett is a kid friendly spot with picnic tables nestled in a bamboo garden which serves Mexican food. They don't have a gluten free menu but if you specify that you need items that are wheat free they can direct you toward the safe menu items. We were disappointed to learn the tortilla chips are fried in the same oil as items containing wheat and off limits (although we had eaten them previous summers), but at the same time I was also impressed that the staff knew this would be a problem for us. After learning that the chips are not gluten free, we drove a few stores down to Brent's General Store and grabbed some Utz's Organic Corn Chips to go with our guacamole. Here are the wheat free/gluten free items we ordered:

• Rice and Beans
• La Fondita Salad with chicken (no tortilla chips)
• Guacamole
• Watermelon Juice

I do have to say that nothing is certified gluten free and I haven't checked every label-but it is place we have gone to for years without a problem. La Fondita was kind of "grandfathered" in for us even thought we usually go to places with gluten free menus. Because of the absence of a gluten free menu, please check on the items you order to make sure that you are okay with the ingredients.
