My 11 year old daughter, Zoe, said I could NOT put flowers on my 7 year old son's cake so we decided to make a bowling cake for his bowling party to celebrate his birthday. After I made the bowling lane she said "If only we could have have hard wood floors like those!"
To make the layered cake I baked four sheet trays of cake and layered them with two layers of vanilla icing and a layer of chocolate pudding. Then we used rolled fondant by Wilton to cover the cake.
We copied a bowling cake we saw by Southern Cottage Cakery because it was such a last minute decorating effort. I actually wanted to buy a cake from Pip's Place, but my husband convinced me to make it instead which was a LOT of work but also a LOT of fun.
